How to use the post office savings calculator

Rates are those for October to December 2026, unchanged from the previous quarter. How each scheme pays: NSC compounds yearly and pays everything at maturity after 5 years. KVP compounds yearly and pays double the amount; the time it takes follows from the rate. SCSS pays interest every quarter and MIS every month, as simple interest, and return the amount after 5 years. Time deposits compound every quarter and pay the interest once a year.

  1. Choose a scheme.
  2. Enter the amount.
  3. Keep the current rate or slide it.
  4. Read the maturity value or the regular payouts.

Questions

Are these rates fixed for my whole term?
Yes for NSC, KVP, SCSS, MIS and time deposits: the rate on the day you invest applies for the full term. The government only changes the rate for new deposits each quarter.
What are the deposit limits?
SCSS allows up to ₹30 lakh per person. MIS allows up to ₹9 lakh in a single account and ₹15 lakh in a joint account. NSC, KVP and time deposits have no upper limit.
Is the interest taxed?
Interest from these schemes is generally added to your income, and some schemes give deductions in the old regime. Rules change, so check the current position for your tax year with the post office or a tax adviser.
Why are there sliders under every box?
So you can see cause and effect. Drag the rate, time or amount and the result, chart and comparison update as you move. Type in the box when you need an exact figure.
