How to use the FD calculator

Maturity is worked out as P × (1 + r/n)n×t, where n is how many times a year interest is compounded and t is the time in years.

  1. Enter the amount you will deposit.
  2. Enter the interest rate your bank offers.
  3. Enter the tenure in years and months.
  4. Choose how often interest compounds. Your bank’s deposit terms say which applies; many banks in India compound quarterly.

Understanding your result

The maturity amount is your deposit plus interest. The effective yearly yield turns any compounding frequency into one comparable yearly rate, so you can compare two deposits fairly. Tax on interest and penalties for breaking the deposit early aren’t included.

Questions

Is FD interest taxable?
In most countries, yes. In India, it is added to your income and taxed at your slab rate, and banks deduct TDS if interest crosses the yearly threshold (you can submit Form 15G or 15H if you are eligible). Elsewhere, check your local tax rules.
What does "effective yearly yield" mean?
It is the simple yearly rate that would give the same result, after counting compounding. It is a fair way to compare FDs with different compounding.
Is this calculation exact?
It uses the standard formula banks and fund houses publish. Your lender or bank may round differently or add fees, so treat the result as a close estimate and confirm with them before you commit.
