How to use the GST calculator

Adding GST: GST = amount × rate ÷ 100. Removing GST from an inclusive price: base = amount × 100 ÷ (100 + rate). Within a state the tax splits equally into CGST and SGST; across states it is charged as IGST.

  1. Enter the amount.
  2. Pick the GST rate for the product or service, or type your own.
  3. Choose Add GST for a price before tax, or Remove GST for a price that already includes tax.
  4. Choose whether the buyer is in the same state or another state.

Understanding your result

The base price is the amount before tax and GST is the tax on top. For a sale within one state, GST is split equally into CGST and SGST (or UTGST); for a sale to another state it is charged as a single IGST. Check the rate for your product’s HSN or service’s SAC code.

Questions

Which GST rates apply now?
Since 22 September 2025, most goods and services fall into the 5% and 18% slabs, with 40% for a small set of luxury and “sin” goods and 3% for gold and jewellery. A few items still use other rates (for example 0.25%, 1.5%, 12% or 28%), so you can type any rate. Check the current notification for your HSN or SAC code.
When do I charge IGST instead of CGST and SGST?
Charge IGST when the place of supply is in a different state or union territory from yours. Within your own state, charge CGST and SGST in equal halves.
Why does removing 18% GST not just subtract 18%?
Because 18 percent was added to the base price, not to the total. On ₹1,180, the base is ₹1,000 and the GST is ₹180, not ₹212.40.
