How to use the discount calculator

Final price = original price × (1 − discount ÷ 100). An extra discount is applied to the already reduced price.

  1. Enter the original price.
  2. Enter the discount, and any extra discount offered on top.
  3. Read the final price and how much you save.

Understanding your result

The final price is the original price minus the discount. With two discounts, the second is taken off the already reduced price, so 20% + 10% saves 28%, not 30%.

Questions

Is 40% + 10% the same as 50% off?
No. The extra 10% applies to the already discounted price, so 40% + 10% is 46% off in total, not 50%.
Does the discount apply before or after tax?
It depends on the shop and the country. Check whether the price shown already includes tax, and look at the bill to see how the discount was applied.
