How to use the number to words

In the Indian system digits are grouped 3, then 2s: 1,25,00,000. One lakh is 1,00,000 (one hundred thousand) and one crore is 1,00,00,000 (ten million). In the international system digits are grouped in 3s: 12,500,000, and a billion is 1,000,000,000 (short scale). Numbers up to 999 trillion are supported, with up to two decimal places for currency.

  1. Type or paste the number (commas are ignored).
  2. Choose the currency wording you need.
  3. Copy the words for your cheque, invoice or form.

Questions

How many million is one crore?
Ten million. One lakh is one hundred thousand, so ten lakh is one million and one hundred crore is one billion.
Should a cheque say “only” at the end?
It is common practice in India to end the amount in words with “only” so nothing can be added after it. The cheque wording here does that.
