How to use the unit converter
Conversions use the exact international definitions: 1 inch = 2.54 cm, 1 foot = 0.3048 m, 1 mile = 1.609344 km, 1 pound = 0.45359237 kg, 1 US gallon = 231 cubic inches (3.785411784 litres), 1 imperial (UK) gallon = 4.54609 litres, 1 acre = 43,560 square feet. Temperatures convert with °F = °C × 9/5 + 32 and K = °C + 273.15. For file sizes, KB, MB and GB are powers of 1,000 and KiB, MiB and GiB are powers of 1,024.
- Choose what you are converting.
- Type the value and pick its unit.
- Read the main result, or the full table of every unit.
Questions
Why do US and UK gallons differ?
They are different units with the same name. A US gallon is about 3.785 litres and an imperial gallon about 4.546 litres, so always check which one a recipe or fuel figure uses.
My upload form says 200 KB. Which KB is that?
Many websites and Windows count 1 KB as 1,024 bytes (strictly a KiB). To be safe, keep files a little under the limit. Our photo tools leave a small margin for this.
What is a bigha or a gunta?
Traditional Indian land units vary from state to state, so they are not included. Check your state’s land records office for the local size.
