How to use the running pace calculator

Pace = time ÷ distance, and speed = distance ÷ time. One mile is 1.609344 km. Split times assume an even pace.

  1. Choose what you want to work out.
  2. Enter the two values you know: distance and time, distance and pace, or time and pace.
  3. Read the result and the split table.

Understanding your result

Pace is time per kilometre or mile, so a lower number is faster. The split table assumes you run at an even pace from start to finish.

Questions

How long is a half marathon and a marathon?
A half marathon is 21.0975 km (13.1 miles) and a marathon is 42.195 km (26.2 miles).
Why aren’t my race splits even?
Hills, wind, crowds and tiredness change your pace. The table shows the even pace that gives your target time.
Can this predict my marathon time from a 10K?
Not yet. Common prediction formulas use a fixed fatigue factor that the original research gives differently for different runners, so we’ve left prediction out rather than give a misleading number.
