How to use the colour converter
HEX, RGB and HSL describe the same screen colour in different ways. CMYK values are a simple conversion for print; a printer’s own colour profile will give slightly different results.
- Type a colour in any format, or use the picker.
- Copy the HEX, RGB, HSL or CMYK value you need.
- Check the contrast results before using the colour behind text.
Questions
What contrast do I need for readable text?
WCAG asks for at least 4.5 : 1 for normal text (AA) and 3 : 1 for large text. 7 : 1 meets the stricter AAA level.
Is the CMYK value exact for printing?
It’s a simple conversion. Printers use colour profiles for their paper and ink, so ask your printer to proof important colours.
